Our Peer Review Process

All submissions to the Journal of South African Democratic Teachers Union (JSADTU) are subjected to a thorough peer review to ensure high standards of quality, validity and credibility. This journal employs a double-blind peer review approach, where the identities of both reviewers and authors remain anonymous throughout. The review process comprises the following steps:

  1. Manuscript Submission: Authors upload their manuscripts via our online submission system.
  2. Initial Check: The editorial team examines the manuscript to verify it aligns with the journal’s scope and standards.
  3. Peer Review: The manuscript is sent to at least two independent experts who assess it based on set criteria and offer comprehensive feedback and recommendations.
  4. Editorial Decision: Based on the reviewers’ feedback, the editorial team decides to accept, request revisions, or reject the manuscript.
  5. Revisions: Authors may be asked to address reviewers’ feedback and resubmit their revised manuscripts.
  6. Final Decision and Preparation: Once the manuscript meets all standards, it is edited, proofread, and prepared for publication.

Core Elements of the Review Process

The peer review process at the journal includes several key components:

  • Quality Review: Editors select reviewers knowledgeable in the manuscript’s subject area to ensure relevant and thorough evaluations. Reviewers assess the quality, impact, and scientific integrity of the work.
  • Confidentiality: Reviewers must keep the review process confidential.
  • Constructive Feedback: Reviewers provide valuable suggestions to help authors improve their work.
  • Timely Completion: Reviewers are expected to finish their assessments within the designated timeframe.

 Review Timeline

Our aim is to ensure an equitable and timely review process for all submissions. Typically, the journal completes the review process within four weeks of submission, though this may vary depending on reviewer availability and required revisions.
